Ahern State Park, Laconia, NH Results - 25 June 2011 Although it had stopped raining, there was still plenty of moisture on the leaves to wet folks down. Temps in the low 60s and just a little breeze, with only a few mosquitoes showing up. A few first timers and some who hadn’t been orienteering in a while. Sprint course was well received, with many going on to try the Memory-O. At the start, runners got to look at a map with the course and memorize the way to the first control, then leave the map behind and take off. At each subsequent control there was a small map segment showing the current location and the next control. To reduce the panic factor, runners could bring a map with the course on it with them, stuffed in a back pocket, to be used for bail-out purposes only. Three individuals / groups needed that on control 7, the hardest leg of the course, with one mountain bike trail possibly not matching up exactly to what was on the ground. Everyone made it back in – although the temperatures were such that no one took advantage of the beach right at the start/finish area. Many thanks to Ernst Linder and Alar Ruutopold for picking up all the controls. - Jim Arsenault, Meet director White, 1.8 km, 9 controls ========================= 1. Liam Tasker 14:25 2.
