SARGENT CAMP -- May 31, 2008 This event was the second try for the excellent courses designed by JJ Cote. The first pass in April of 2007 came right after several inches of heavy snow and included one person doing the course on skis. There was no snow in sight this time, and the heavy rain threatened in the weather forecast made only a 5 minute appearance about 10:30 and from then on it was fine. Margaret Magnus was the only one to participate in both events. She was chased from one control by a wild turkey protecting its chick. This is an excellent area for orienteering and we are looking forward to using it for our next National level "A-meet" in the fall of 2009. Sargent Camp also had a nice (dry) building for our event center. We had several new memberships (** below). We also had our first "ice cream stand" start setup. Because of bugs and sprinkles/rain we had the starter, JJ, inside and he would assign start times and collect punch cards through a screen window which he would open as needed.
